I got to thinking the other day, it’s been ten years since The Rental Show was in New Orleans.

I know this because 2002 was our first show as an exhibitor and I have a lot of memories. We packed a few chair samples and some cases of local wine, flew something like 36hrs from Christchurch, a couple of wide eyed Kiwis heading off into the great unknown…

It was barely five months since 9/11 and people were jittery. Airport security lines were infinity and we were still learning the art of undressing in public and that a laptop remaining in it’s bag was just not going to happen.

We couldn’t afford the ARA suggested accommodation so stayed at St Vincents Guesthouse- a quaint old ex-orphanage with shared bathrooms, and we ate grits for breakfast in the basement served by large African American ladies who called us y’all.

At the show we met some of the people that were to become loyal repeat customers and good friends. We gave away lots of New Zealand wine. And we sold thousands of Aluminum folding chairs.

I’m not sure what to expect of New Orleans this year, but, if you are around, we hope y’all will come and visit us at our 11th straight Rental Show in booth 4250, Feb 5-8.

We’ll ply you with NZ Sauvignon Blanc, we’ll extol the virtues of our super-lite no-rust folding chairs, and we’ll boast about all the customers who’ve bought and loved them in the years between New Orleans and New Orleans.

The Rental Show is held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Centre, New Orleans from Feb 5-8 2012. Register at www.therentalshow.com.

If you can’t wait until then and want to know more, go to www.alloyfold.com.

After the devastating earthquake of Feburary 22nd, many of Christchurch’s cultural institutions were left homeless. The Court Theatre, which operated for 35 years from Christchurch’s historic Arts Centre, was red stickered bringing all current and future productions to a grinding halt. Having no permanent place to continue producing and promoting live theatre the team were eager to get back on their feet and Alloyfold is lending a helping hand!

After the quake we contacted the Court and offered them a great deal on our auditorium seating. They picked 394 of our popular AF6618 Auditorium Seating, riser mounted, with crosshatched maroon upholstery. Not only did we give them a great deal on the chairs, we are also installing them free of charge as a way we can help with the recovery efforts in our city. Check out a similar install we carried out at Middleton Grange school.

So we are now in the thick of a big install job at the Court’s new Addington home. Its heavy work, but it will help get Christchurch’s cultural heart beating again. We’ll make sure to update you on our progress!

If you would like to help the Court Theatre get up and running again you can contribute at www.icanhelpthecourt.com.

Till next time,
Some may say our rugby obsession’s a little neurotic, and it does drive us insane that our No. 1 ranked All Blacks haven’t won the Rugby World Cup in 24 years.

Two weeks into the tournament New Zealand is a-buzz with rugby fans and we are all wondering if this will be the year we finally break our World Cup hoodoo. Time will tell.

The English Roses have been out and about in NZ. Captain Mike Tyndall seems to have been especially enjoying the local hospitality. And we’re so flattered that the English have chosen the black alternative playing strip in honour of our local heroes. What a gesture!

Another world-beater to come out of NZ is theAluminium folding chair from ALLOYFOLD. Made especially for hire companies, it doesn’t rust and is 30% lighter than steel equivalents. Our USA customers who’ve bought over 200,000 of them dubbed it “The world’s best rental chair”. We all know how Americans exaggerate, so we’ll just say it’s a good chair, and you should check it out!

So, if you get to see coverage of the Rugby World Cup this week be sure to look out for the thousands of NZ-designed, No. 1 ranked, Aluminium ALLOYFOLD folding chairs that are supporting the bottoms of fans up and down the country!

The USA rugby team is in New Zealand and they are nervous.

The Rugby World Cup is the world’s 3rd largest international sporting tournament, so you could understand some nerves… but that’s not the problem.

The rugby-mad host nation, New Zealand, has the world’s number one ranked team (The All Blacks), while the USA Eagles are ranked 18th, but that’s not the problem either.

When the host city welcomed the 46 man US team with a challenge to paddle a Waka up the town’s river alongside bare chested local warriors in grass skirts….that was the tipping point! Citing “safety and security reasons” the team pulled out of the ceremonial trip in the Maori war canoe, preferring to keep their feet planted firmly on terra firma.

Who could blame them – even though it’s supposed to be our NZ heritage I’d be scared silly getting in one of those things!

If you get to see coverage of the Rugby World Cup which starts this weekend, spare a thought for your traumatized Eagles and be sure to look out for the thousands of NZ-designed ALLOYFOLD Aluminum folding chairs (also with a world #1 ranking) that will support the prosteriors of fans up and down the country during this showcase event.

Should you be inspired to use our world-beating lightweight, no-rust and virtually maintenance free folding chairs in your rental business, call me on 1 888 368 7713 or visit www.alloyfold.com and we promise not to mention the Waka.

By the way, in a display of true USA pioneering spirit the Waka trip did actually go ahead after some considered risk re-assessment. Didn’t see any grass skirts though!

Hi, Chair-men here

Have you ever been thinking about purchasing something and in the time leading up to your purchase notice that thing EVERYWHERE you look? My family always laugh at me and perhaps with a hint of despair. I have this thing you see, I can’t go anywhere without noticing chairs, taking photos of them and drooling over new sleek lines or styling. It’s an obsession, that’s true, but it’s also a passion with a cause.

Before you think we are totally nuts, let me explain. Gregg & I (Murray) are into chairs big time, our company Alloyfold sells commercial furniture including church chairs, rental and event chairs, cinema seating, waiting seating and auditorium seating. Our organisation’s mission or vision if you want to get corporate on it, is one of social enterprise. Alloyfold generates funding for Pathway Charitable Group, a charitable trust that supports disadvantaged and needy people in our community. So you see, the chair obsession at least has some kind of excuse!

Our Chair-men blog is kind of our journal of our experiences whilst installing seating around Australasia. After 10 years of manufacturing and supplying furniture we have learnt a few little tips and tricks we will share with you that may help you in your own furniture selection and lastly, we promise to keep it quirky and just a little bit cheeky .

Follow us on the Alloyfold Chair-Men journey. We will take you to Dreamworld, Queensland Australia in our next edition!

Finding the right Church Chairs is a really important decision to make . Not only are the chairs in your church more than likely going to be around for a long time, but church seating is a big financial commitment and corporate decision for most churches. We have learnt in our 10 years of supplying furniture that there are some key things you should look for when choosing church chairs that will last.

COMFORTABLE CHAIRS - A comfortable chair is key, good cushioning and lumbar support will make it more comfortable when sitting for long periods of time. Consistent foam in the chair seat and back will mean the foam will last longer and retain it’s shape. Things like the shape of the foam at the front of the chair ie waterfall rolls can create greater support for those using the church seating.

CHAIR FABRICS TO LAST – Fabrics are also key in finding a church chair that suits the décor of the building along with creating a mood or atmosphere. Many interior designers and architects get involved in this stage of the process for some churches, particularly if the building is a refurbishment or a new project. Often the church seating or furniture is the focal point of the design. Choose a fabric for the chair that is commercial grade with a high level of double rubs for longevity.

Church Chairs Linked - Alloyfold Installation in Queensland, AU

LINKABLE CHAIRS - A good church chair also has the right dimensions. It should be wide for comfortable seating particularly as church chairs are generally linked together. Interlocked or linked church chairs are popular due to the fire regulations set on the seating of many public venues. Ganged chairs in a church can also create the illusion of a pew type seating arrangement and thus wider chairs are perfect for this purpose. The height of the chair is also important particularly in a church that doesn’t have tiered flooring in which case auditorium seating would be more appropriate. Lower church chairs make it easier for people to see and also are less akin to dining seating. You may wish to look into church seats with adaptations such as a church chair with arms for example, for those in your congregation that may find getting out of their seating a little more difficult.

FLEXIBILITY IN CHAIR ARRANGEMENT - Flexibility is key. A number of churches use their halls, auditoriums or sanctuarys as multipurpose venues. For these types of arrangements, Church Chairs need to be easy to move, stackable and relatively lightweight while still being sturdy. Stackable church chairs are highly valuable when needing to set up and pack down frequently. If your church requires this type of flexibility then individual stacking chairs rather than forms or pews are by far the most space saving and practical option. A church chair trolley is also handy in these situations to be able to roll stacks of chairs to various locations within the church. Make sure you consider the necessary requirements on your space when looking at purchasing seating for your church.

CHURCH SEATING WITH WARRANTY - Your decision to buy church chairs often takes time, consultation and resources. Make sure that your chairs come with a warranty to ensure your peace of mind.

Learn more about Church Chairs or find out more about church seating options.

Alloyfold New Zealand’s aluminum folding chair is known for it’s performance in the Rental Sector but the companies’ customers in Christchurch New Zealand, are now finding there is a new market for the chair. Christchurch’s February Earthquake that struck on the 22nd of February, has had a massive impact on the infrastructure of the city. Many homes have been devastated and it is estimated that 80% of the central city has been referred to as “red stickered” meaning the buildings will be torn down for a complete re-build.Approximately 50,000 central city workers alongside schools, homes, community centres and churches have had to relocate from their damaged premises to either temporary locations or entirely new premises. To make this rel-location even more difficult, the strain on available buildings is pressured and with a shortage of options, many organisations are seeking more creative alternatives to house their schools, groups or functions.

Make shift big top tents have been set up as lecture rooms or campus cafes at the University of Canterbury and many high schools have been using marquees for as temporary classrooms, chapels or communal areas. St Margaret’s College is one of these schools and has a 10 x 40 metre marquee as a school gymnasium and one posing as their school chapel/auditorium. Alloyfold’s customers supplied St Margaret’s college with Alloyfold aluminum chairs for their “new” auditorium and have been struggling to keep up with demand for chairs for these make shift locations.

Other events such as university graduations and even cafes have re-located into big top tents creating a demand for temporary seating and keeping local hire and rental businesses busy at what is usually the quiet autumn/winter months. Alloyfold’s International Sales Manager Gregg Hagen says “Alloyfold’s aluminum chair has been in all sorts of locations in Christchurch of late. Being lightweight, customers love the easy set up and transportation particularly at a time when life is already stressful. Some of the harder hit areas are near the beach too so the no rust feature of our chair has definitely been a plus”.

Alloyfold are glad to be able to help their local customers and their local community in the re-build of the city.
